Some noticed bene̞ts before the end of the three-month trial. Whilst the results were encouraging, this was a small, short-term study – a further controlled study has been suggested. Interestingly, serotonin is used by the body to make melatonin, and we have already noted how this brain chemical appears to bene̞t some migraineurs. We have also seen how changes in sleep patterns can be a trigger for migraines. Note: You can encourage your body to produce more melatonin by eating foods rich in tryptophan, which the body uses to make serotonin.

Drink water Dehydration is another common and o˕en overlooked trigger for migraines. The tissues surrounding the brain are composed mainly of water. Some natural health practitioners claim that drinking insu̠cient water leads to a build up of toxins which can trigger a migraine in some people – drinking between one and two litres of water daily ̟ushes the whole system and seems to reduce symptoms in some migraineurs.
